One of the most common issues with mobile device users is being WiFi connected but no internet access. Just when you need your internet connection but you have no idea why you cannot access any website. Not even your Facebook account. So what are you going to do?

Diagnosing the “WiFi Connected But No Internet Access” issue
- First of all, make sure that other devices connected to the same WiFi network cannot connect to the internet as well. If you are the only one that is not connected to the internet while others are, then your problem is most likely with your device. What you should do
- If you are using a laptop or a smartphone, you may start with restarting your device. Sometimes, some drivers just malfunctioned and that may be the cause of not being able to access the internet through WiFi.
- If restarting does not fix the WiFi connected but no internet access problem issue, then it’s time to do another method. Try using the “Troubleshoot Problems” when you right-click the internet icon in the rightmost corner of your taskbar. The Windows OS will try to diagnose and detect the issue and possibly the solution as well. If it gives any recommendation about its findings, just follow it.
DNS/IP Address Issue
- If your problem involves DNS and IP address just open the Windows Start menu and type CMD. When the command prompt appears, type “ipconfig /flushdns” and it will flush the DNS cache.
- If your mobile device happens to be connected from other WIFi modem device, then the problem might involve DNS and IP address. Go to the Windows Control Panel > Network and Internet > Change Adapter Settings then click to the currently connected WiFi adapter and open Properties. On the Networking tab, scroll down to TCP/IPv4 and click Properties. Make sure that both “Obtain Automatically” are ticked. Click OK and close settings. The WiFi adapter will try to reconnect now using the default IP address 192.168.l.l and DNS of your current WiFi connection.

- For smartphone users, if restarting does not work for you then you then there must be some apps that you recently installed that block the internet connection. If you recently used a VPN, that might be the culprit. Remove or uninstall whichever VPN setup you used.
Another cause of this problem could be an outdated hardware driver. In this case, you WiFi hardware might just need a new and updated driver to fix the issue. Head to your device manufacturer’s website and download the appropriate driver. Install it and restart your Windows machine.

Modem or Router Problem
If the issue is about all the devices were not able to connect to the WiFi network, then the problem should be from the modem or the router itself. Here is what you should do.
- Check if the device’s lights are all working the way are supposed to. Sometimes, some devices change the LED light color to indicate connection or disconnection. Sometimes, there is also an instance that if the LEDs are blinking then it means it’s connected to the internet. And then sometimes it is the other way around. If you are familiar with the LED light’s behavior and what they mean then you should check it now.
- If it indicates that it is not connected to the internet, try restarting the device.
- When restarting did not fix the issue, then you should reset your modem and router device. Usually, there is a reset button available on the device. And there is also some small pinhole that acts as a reset switch. You can use a pin or any pointed thing to activate it. It usually needs some 10 seconds of long-press to function.
- If WiFi connected but no internet access problem still persists, the problem now is possible with your ISP or Internet Service Provider. You should contact them and ask for the issue. There might be some maintenance going on in your area or you just forgot to pay the bills. You may settle those first before you can access your internet again.
